The Linux kernel team has really stupid people on it. You would think the world’s single most used piece of software (all android phones use Linux, and more of those exist than all desktops combined) would have slightly higher standards. You’d think wrong.
And when you find terrible regressions that make standards compliant code fail, “don’t break user space” is thrown around, which is basically code for “we don’t want to fix that” more than it EVER means “I care about compatibility”.
