LB: this is a more eloquent sum up of what I've been trying to tell dipshits for ages about why being an asshole in *some* contexts ruin 'civility' in other contexts
and why it's important to learn to apologize for being an ass accidentally and such
IME, the people who say things like "gee when could people be friends despite politics" are often the people making "bold statements" about shit in the least sensitive and least diplomatic fashion possible
it's as if only their feelings matter
"well, I feel my discussions of the use of [SLUR] don't reflect on my feelings on actual reality"
"well some people may disagree with that, for example it kind of sounds [X-ist], really"
"DID YOU JUST CALL ME [X-ist]?!! YOU'RE BEING NEEDLESSLY HOSTILE, [SLUR]!"
of course it's other people's issue, clearly, my mistake 🙄 you are obviously the grand communicator of humanity
