Faces along the bar
Cling to their average day:
The lights must never go out,
The music must always play,
All the conventions conspire
To make this fort assume
The furniture of home;
Lest we should see where we are,
Lost in a haunted wood,
Children afraid of the night
Who have never been happy or good."

"I sit in one of the dives
On Fifty-second Street
Uncertain and afraid
As the clever hopes expire
Of a low dishonest decade:
Waves of anger and fear
Circulate over the bright
And darkened lands of the earth,
Obsessing our private lives;
The unmentionable odour of death
Offends the September night.

assembly language with the power of assembly language."

@liw
Yes, that's definitely better IMO. If you try to spam, you end up DDOSing yourself! Nice.

@liw
forgive me, but I think it's not about users being "stupid". It's about them wanting to get the immediate job done -- Alice wants to send me a message, how can she do that? -- rather than them wanting to _use the software_.
Most users aren't interested in the software, in the same way I'm not interested in cars, I just need to get to work every morning. Am I stupid for not checking the tyres and oil every morning too? Not really, although sure, it would probably be an idea.

@awilfox
Well, CW is for things people might find objectionable or upsetting, right? It's not for things people will find boring or confusing? I put politics in a CW because it's usually depressing, but that's as far as I go.
Also, on mastodon.social some folks aren't even CWing porn. So, in summary: WTAF?
(Note, all: Not gonna CW tech. Feel free to unfollow or mute me.)

Wouldn't people just distribute their stamps alongside their email addresses, though, making them more or less useless? Users need something simple / tend to follow the simplest use path.

@stareye
Hmm. Maybe the "whom to follow" feature is buggy in Fedilab. Now following a f**kton of people at random there, see what that brings…

@stareye
Clarification: "philosophy" not "Philosophy". I don't give a damn about whatever Whitgenstein said, but if you want to talk about what the Chinese Room thought experiment says about sapience, you had me at "what".

I would love to fully switch away from birdsite but I don't see it happening because there are topics I can read there that I can't seem to read here. I mean, I'm okay with shitposting and cat pictures as much as anyone. But I also want to talk about politics and, I guess, philosophy?
Maybe birbsite wins by virtue of having so many f**ing users -- "all human life is here, damnit?" With that in mind, I'm also @stareye, but it's no better.
Fedilab supports the "whom to follow" thing, but there is no-one (!) in "UK politics" or "philosophy", either here or there?

I suppose I have a lot of emotional capital invested in the idea of the Disney Star Wars being not good. The originals were important to me, and I hated the prequels. I've not seen any of them.
Couple of days ago I saw the first ten minutes of Rogue One, and in that time I went "Huh? Why is?" about three times. Not a good sign; normally I don't spot suchlike, I'm **in** the movie. I'm afraid your movie franchise is very much dead…

@ky0ko
I doubt it. If the instance already had your app registered as a valid access method for the account, it would be fine, but since there isn't an account to have the app registered against, there can't be.

@yogthos
I mean, don't get me wrong: the underlying problem that if it *was* dangerous and the telecos *could* get away with it, they would be fine with that, is horrifying and real. But there are better examples. The water supply in Flint, Michegan. Fracking. Self-driving cars, possibly. Or climate change, which will certainly kill millions in my lifetime unless governments and corporations learn some ethics, which ain't gonna happen.
