I'm way too tired to read through the past seven hours of crap but @Elizafox's nasty toots seem to indicate we've upgraded or something?
I literally have the same Mastodon tab open since I registered three days ago. I have not refreshed/reloaded/whatever the tab (or browser) since.
If that's correct, I want to give a *huge* pat on the back to the developers of Mastodon for somehow making everything still live-update across an upgrade of the software.
@luciferMysticus if there was a "boost 1000x" button, I would click it here
@awilfox the amount of crap I have to do at work for backported fixes to keep old clients working with new servers is absurd.
At least Citrix, RemoteApp, and whatever that thing VMWare has means instead of installing the client on 1,000 workstations it only needs to be on a few servers.
@luciferMysticus that's my favourite kind of work, as perverse as that sounds. I love keeping old things working with new standards.
It's why I loved jwz's HTTP/1.1โ1.0 proxy.
@awilfox some old things don't really deserve to still exist though, like SSHv1 or COM. Then again, plenty of new things don't deserve to exist
@awilfox of course the whole thing is going to be web-based in the 2019/2020 release
@luciferMysticus the web needs to die. sorry. it does.
@awilfox it doesn't need to die; it just needs severe reform
@awilfox @luciferMysticus no, it needs to be nuked from orbit.
@awilfox There was some drama you missed.
I was trying to bring calm to a storm I created inadvertenly.
It's fine now but at what cost really.
@awilfox @Elizafox this is why having a stable API and separating data from UI is essential. Too many developers don't get that.
