@Elizafox I don't know if I'd agree that individualism is a core component of fascism. Fascism seeks to strengthen state power and often relies on tying individual identity to the state and its apparatus, but Individualism would necessarily break down the command and control infrastructure of a fascist state, it needs for its party members and citizens to accept its socio-political authority above their own to function as its strategy dictates.

@Elizafox Since I started thinking about it, the US has been flirting with fascism a long time.

The idea of american exceptionalism, citizen rights over human rights, reverence of the military and military might, and a strong union between corporate and political interests all score high on that scale.

Couple this with a very strong authoritarian streak in the civil society (people justifying police killings etc) and you're not far away.

@Elizafox the alt-right are (conservative) neonazis, yep. their aims and goals aligns very well with those of the NPD and REP.

also, the right wing traditionally IS colored with brown smudges. in german speaking countries, there is a common consent, that those are borderline nazis (eg. the AfD, any kind of Pro $mybundesland party), if not neonazis.
