@Elizafox Though writings on how to ultimately optimise for personal liberty disproportionately focuses on the higher levels of mazlow's hierarchy, which frankly strikes me as, while still being important to keep in mind, the loftier, easier, and less relevant part of ensuring everyone can self-actualize freely

@amrofnoc I was never really a fan of Mazlow's hierarchy, although that's in part because my first exposure to it was in my high school Communications class. And that textbook had Jesus as an example of a self-actualized person.

Then again, this _was_ in Texas...

@aerdanx That's an unfortunate example for them to use. Regardless of one's opinion on the topic, an example like that is going to overwhelm the nuances of relative necessity

@amrofnoc It's hard for me to say shit with the political compass like.

"We should do something about Syria because they crossed a line."

But at the same time be like

"I approve of LGBTQ rights 1000% and the right to be named whatever you want and have a gender of your choosing for any reason."

Political compass shifts me right for the former view socially (on policy I am centrist), even though otherwise I am far left.

@Elizafox I feel really uncomfortable over the liberal internationalism mandate applied here. eg Libya seemed like a really good example of minor intervention being able to do a lot of good right up until we got to the results where everything is very unstable and much worse off than before. There are definitely going to be nuances that I will miss, but I am very scared of the pattern of bomb place without a long term plan -> things are worse than otherwise. :<
