@sungo Ah yes, puppet, ansible, and docker have turned formerly unqualified developers into sysadmins.
@Samizdata @sungo Ever heard of the Mechanical Turk? The chess-playing machine? Yeah, it's a bit like that. There's someone under the table but the audience thinks it's all fully automated.
@sungo @Samizdata Given that people at google formerly had a choice of OS and many people chose to use IE6 and Windows XP that should give you an idea of why coders should never be trusted with sysadmin jobs unless they can demonstrate competence.

@Elizafox That's why we have coders AND admins. I am an out of date admin, and a miserable coder. I gave up on coding when I discovered admin work.
@Elizafox @sungo Yeah, well. My admin buddy shudders at ansible, and the only reason I know anything about it is his explanations so I can understand when he vents. And an attempt to Docker PiHole killed the connectivity on one of my boxen, necessating a rebuild.
