@sungo @Samizdata My mother has never been terribly supportive in re depression. My father left when I was young and he died 20 years ago about this time.

She didn't even care when I was harming myself to try to make her get me help when this shitshow was starting.

She still doesn't know I have an official diagnosis of depression or that I've started antidepressants.

I love her, but she's not the kind of person who only gives a shit about my *physical* well-being.

@sungo @Samizdata Unless I'm starving or hurting for money she generally doesn't care how I'm doing or how I feel. She thinks feelings are irrelevant. It's sad...

@Elizafox @sungo Sounds like she's afraid to feel because something might go wrong.

@Samizdata @sungo I think it's because she's struggled with it herself and she's unable to care about that sort of thing from being blunted by it.
