Now is the summer of our discotheque @Elizafox

I wonder if Mastodon will be like the USA where we have different states kinda bound in a loose union.

We'll have weird hippie places like SFBA (though increasingly not) and Portland that are just plain weird and strange outright.

Then you'll have NYC full of businessmen and people who think they're better than everyone else.

Then you'll have New Jersey which is America's largest superfund site.

And then Oklahoma and Texas which is highly conservative with pockets of VERY strange people.

@Elizafox I hope that's the case, except with no federal government to wreck things. :)

@Elizafox mastodon will be the new AOL (like America, but online)

@masklayer I think more like... actually, society as a whole.

Occasionally giant over-the-top billboards and ads. And a few subtle ones.

Some people just ignore them. Some people look at them as a hobby. There's a cult following for a good deal of the ads.

My grandfather once told me "don't put garbage into your brain" because garbage influences your thoughts and feelings, and I consider ads garbage. I buy things because I want to, not because I'm told to.

@Elizafox As a very strange texan and an ex-San Franciscan, I approve of this idea.

All the world is a democracy. Vote with your location. Mastodon too.

@NthTensor I am a weird-ass Oklahoman. Like, VERY weird.

And weirdly countercultural.

=D

@Elizafox New Jersey is more than just America's largest superfund site. It's also America's superfund site with the most heart.

@paulsheprow If I had to propose a cleanup plan...

I'd just say make Chris Christie eat the waste.
